Will America Ever Be on the Same Page?
The events of 2020 have largely revealed just how much we aren’t united as a nation
When I was in school, I remember hearing the phrase that “America is a melting pot” — that the United States is a place that proudly blends people from all different backgrounds from across the globe.
And for a long time, I believed that America truly was a melting pot.
I believed that no matter where you came from, once you got here, you’re an American. But, as I got older, I discovered that this naive truth I once believed in was wildly inaccurate.
As I got older, I started to notice the subtle gaps in equality. Over time, those subtle gaps only seemed to grow larger and larger to a point where I wasn’t sure how much of a melting pot we really were.
I started to notice that not all individuals were necessarily seen as equal. I noticed that this country didn’t fully blend people together, but rather, made people who are different stick out more drastically.
One of the things that we, as Americans, take much pride in is the freedom to show off our differences. Yet, our display of differences has also been one of our biggest downfalls — because not everyone embraces each other’s differences the way we hope people…
