Why I Don’t Make it a Habit to Write Every Day

When it comes to quality versus quantity, quality always wins

Possibly one of the most popular topics of discussion when it comes to writing— especially on Medium — is whether or not you should write every day. I’ve seen article after article from various authors who argue that you should make it a habit to write every day based on the plain logic that “practice makes perfect”. Although this logic makes complete sense, simply writing every day isn’t necessarily an exact recipe for success.

In my past decade of writing on Medium, I’ve never once adopted the habit of writing every day because to me, it frankly just seems a little overkill. Unless writing is your full-time profession or if you really have no other hobbies or major responsibilities that take precedent, writing every single day just seems extremely daunting and slightly unrealistic.

And the truth is, it’s quite difficult to genuinely want to write every day. Then, even if you do, not everything you write is necessarily going to become something good. You can’t always force a great piece of work into existence just because you’re making the minimal effort to do it.

You’re not overflowing with new ideas every day
