To Be Successful on Medium, Write One Really Good Article Each Month
From there, just hope for the best
As Writers, we’re constantly transforming our thoughts, opinions, and ideas into one cohesive message. We craft those messages in our own unique way based on data, our experiences, and our perspective. We try our best to make sure that our message is clear and concise so that it can be well-received by our readers and hopefully resonate with them, too.
However, due to the abundance of Writers that there now are and the endless pieces of content that are published each day, most of our messages don’t have equal opportunity to be received at all.
In today’s world of online publishing, we have to be honest with ourselves in knowing that not every article that we publish will be seen by the people whom we want to see it. We have to also know that not every article we publish will be a hit.
If you’re defining success on Medium based on how much money you make per article, how many followers you have, or how many claps you get, then it might be a little discouraging for some of you new guys out there. So, I’ll save you from learning it the hard way by telling you that in order to be successful on this platform, then you have to do everything in your ability to make sure that each article you publish is quality content. That being said, try to write least one really good article each month, if possible.
And how do you do that, you might ask? Try some of these little tricks for a start.
Pay attention to how scalable your tags are.
As cheap and easy of a move as it might sound, it really is important to be cognizant of the scale of the tags that you choose to associate with your articles. When it comes to scaling your writing, it should be common sense that the larger the number is on the topic that you’re writing about, then the better the chances you have at getting more eyeballs on your work. That will determine how many potential views and reads you’ll get.
Write headlines that make sense.
Don’t try to be too ambiguous with your headlines. You only have a few characters to lure people in and get them to click on your article, so the first thing that people see in your article shouldn’t confuse them. At the same time, don’t show all your hands too quickly. If you make your headline too easy to figure out, then your reader might not even bother to continue reading at all. Your headline is your strongest asset towards making sure that your article is successful, so don’t blow it in those first initial words.
Make sure that your message makes sense, too.
Now that you’ve actually lured people into reading your article through a clever headline, keep their attention by making sure that your focus is still on track. Don’t mislead people in your intro paragraph and don’t go off on a tangent that’s irrelevant towards what you actually want to say. The easiest way to lose your readers’ interest is by going off-topic and rambling on about something that doesn’t make sense. So, before you hit the publish button, make sure that you’ve had a few reads to make sure that it makes sense to you first, so that you know that it will make sense to your readers as well.
But, even with all of these tips and tricks to make sure that you publish a quality piece of writing, this doesn’t necessarily guarantee you success on Medium or anywhere else online. Success, unfortunately, does come with a bit of luck when it comes to the digital world.
You just have to do your best in writing at least one really good article each month (or however often you’re able to), and hope for the best. That’s how it goes in writing and in life.
