That’s a very interesting thing to point out — though there’s probably more of a peace of mind in knowing that it’s open racism rather than hidden racism, racism still something that needs to be fixed in this country. Open racism and hidden racism are both still racism nonetheless. I guess to your friend’s point though, that’s the lesser of two evils.
