I've witnessed something similar in New York and it's gut-wrenching and so hurtful when someone demands another person to speak English when this country is a country FULL or immigrants. A white person would never dare to ask another white person who is speaking German or French to speak English, yet when it comes to minorities, we're seen completely differently. It's horrible and goes to show that skin color, ethnicity, and language are all intertwined.

I'm glad you said something in that situation you experienced. We need more people to defend others and call out things that are wrong when we see it.
