Stop Leaving Your Dirty Dishes in the Sink

Both literally and metaphorically

So, I have this pet peeve about dishes being left in the kitchen sink for too long of a time frame — Basically, anything that is still sitting in there for longer than an hour after the prior meal has been consumed kind of makes me anxious.

It may seem a little rigid and very type A, but I give partial blame towards the fact that one of my primary household chores growing up as a kid was doing the dishes by hand.

I never grew up with a dishwasher in my home, so washing dishes by hand was always my form of manual labor.

It was time-consuming and tedious, but at least I knew that I got the job done myself.

I also knew (and so did my Mom) who would be to blame if the dishes weren’t completely spotless — It was me.

When I was around twenty-five years old, I finally moved into an apartment in Manhattan that had a brand new dishwasher.

It was kind of like getting a smartphone for the first time in your life — Exciting, unreal, and seemingly life changing.

However, in the end, I realized that I had never really used it that much — By simple habit, I just ended up washing my own dishes the way most of the time, the same way that I always did.
