‘Never Have I Ever’ Hits Close to Home for Young Audiences Who’ve Lost a Parent
How this Netflix teen rom-com portrays the emotional toll experienced by any person who’s lost a parent at a young age

I have no shame in admitting that teen rom-coms are one of my all-time favorite guilty pleasures when it comes movie or television genres.
To some people, it may seem slightly creepy to be a thirty-something year-old married woman who indulges in such genres of entertainment, but there’s something oddly intriguing about transporting ourselves back to the days when we experienced the rollercoaster of emotions that came with our all-consuming high school crushes and short-lived, bad romances.
It’s a very unique form of nostalgia to be able to see a character in a television show or movie and instantaneously remember those same exact moments that we once had when we were young. And I know I can’t be the only person who feels this way, otherwise, these shows wouldn’t continue to exist or get the insanely high ratings that they do.
