It’s Been a Great Year for Losing

Sometimes, the universe throws loss our way in order to force ourselves to make space for the things that have yet to come

The pandemic has been many things for many people, but if I could sum up my own personal experience throughout this whole thing, it would be that I’ve lost a whole lot more than I’ve gained…or maybe that’s just how I see it.

For many of us, the biggest thing that we feel like we’ve lost is time — and it’s true, we did. We lost an entire year and a half. We lost time that we could have spent with our loved ones; with our families, our friends, our co-workers. The time we had set aside for vacations, weddings, honeymoons, concerts, sporting events.

That time is something that none of us will ever get back and I’m pretty sure anyone would agree that we’re all heavily mourning this loss of time. However, on top of the time that was lost, there were also people whom we’ve lost along the way as well.

The unbelievably high death toll due to COVID-19 has made the pandemic all the more painful to deal with. Then, there were the many other forms of loss that we’ve had thrown our way — job loss, the loss of human connection, the loss of relationships that withered away, the loss of “normal life” as we knew it, the list…
