Is This the End of Office Friendships?
The days of showing up in the office every day Monday through Friday are long gone and my fear is that this has created a negative ripple effect towards an individual’s overall work experience
The other day, I went into the office for the first time in about a week and I looked around and realized that there was no one for me to really talk to. I scanned my immediate vicinity to see empty seat upon empty seat and for a split second, I felt somewhat sad to be there.
Similar to the countless other companies who have shifted to a hybrid working environment, my company requires us to be in the office at least three times a week. I, on the other hand, have significantly scaled down on the number of times I make the trip into the office. On a good week, it’s realistically two days max. But, for me personally, several factors came into play as to why my presence has been lacking post-covid.
To name a few, my husband and I moved out of the city two years ago and I also recently had a baby. Needless to say, spending three hours round trip and paying nearly thirty dollars a day to physically go into work isn’t very enticing.
