I’m glad to read a positive spin on getting laid off! It’s very refreshing to know that you’re embracing it, especially since a lot of the brutal truths about unemployment paint a very negative picture, especially when financial stability is on the line. I too was laid off over the Summer and made it a little past month four when I (thankfully) received a job offer, hundreds of job applications later. The honeymoon phase, however, only lasted two months for me because I have a little one at home, baby number two on the way, and a very steep mortgage, so time was of the essence in terms of getting back to work.
I definitely think it’s important to step back and appreciate the well deserved time off of not working because that “break” may not come around again when you need it, if not willingly. It’s hard to bask in unemployment though if there are pressures and responsibilities riding on your shoulders. Yes, the time off can be a blessing in disguise for a time, but after a while, the stress does kick in.
Thanks for sharing your experience and keep enjoying the things you love during unemployment!
