I do understand that racism is everywhere.
I understand that it's a societal issue that's prevalent regardless of the geographical location. I, too, have been to many different countries and many different states in the US and I've experienced the same type of racism across the globe, so I'm not necessarily saying that I won't go to those places or let it hold me back from living my life. This issue doesn't affect me every second of every day of my life. If it did, I wouldn't be able to function in my job or in any other area for that matter.
The point of this article was to give people perspective, spread awareness, and bring these topics to light for those who aren't paying attention. We shouldn't just accept it and move on. We shouldn't just brush it off our shoulders, saying "it is the what it is" and remain complacent. People write about these topics to let other people (who may not be as aware or understanding) of how prevalent the issue is.
Lastly, it DOES affect how I feel when it's a matter of my personal safety - which, in New York, is a very real issue.
Thanks for your response and perspective. I respect that you took the time to write it.
