I Deactivated Instagram and All 1,500 of My Posts are Now Gone Forever

But, I’m surprisingly not as sad as I thought I would be

About two months ago, I had just about enough of my fill of social media.

Night after night, I would scroll for hours through Instagram watching stories, liking photos, and frequently posting stories of even the most mundane things that I did on a daily basis. I have to admit, I was pretty addicted.

It wasn’t until an argument with a [former] close friend pushed me over the edge that I finally decided get off of social media completely and take a break for a little while. So, I went ahead and deactivated both my Facebook and Instagram accounts, with no real timeline for when I’d return.

Flash forward to a few days ago when my husband needed me to try to find a photo of his bike that I first attempted to reactivate my Instagram account in nearly two months. That’s when I realized the reality that after thirty days, your account becomes permanently deleted, with no possibility of getting it back (To be fair, my husband actually did warn me of this, but I thought he was just joking).

Then, when I realized that every single photo, every single story, every single memory I’ve ever posted over the course of the past nine years had been…
