I can only hope that our altruism remains steadfast and that we preserve the process that goes into the art of writing

I had dinner with a few friends recently and the topic of ChatGPT and AI came up. I revealed some news that seemed somewhat shocking to them — I have never used ChatGPT before. Frankly, I didn’t even know how it actually worked or what it actually was. All I knew was that it was related to AI and that people talk about it…a lot.

After this minor confession and feeling like I’ve been living under a rock, I was curious to know how they used it in their daily lives. I was curious to know the benefits of ChapGTP I slightly wanted to be sold on the concept. They made a few valid points as to the convenience and usefulness of leveraging it to get a jump start at organizing your train of thought when you can’t focus on writing.

A few examples included simple, low-risk tasks like organizing a grocery list or spell-checking an important e-mail. As tempting as these sound, I told them that I was just fine using my good old-fashioned brain to develop my train of thought, not AI. Call it pride or maybe ignorance, but I wasn’t interested in taking ChatGPT for a test spin.
