How Far Can Passion Really Take Us?
In the words of the great Elle Woods, “passion is a key ingredient to the study and practice of law and of life”.
In the witty 2000’s comedy “Legally Blonde”, Elle Woods’ character makes a lasting impression on generations to come, proving that there’s much more to a person than meets the eye. In Elle’s unforgettable final monologue where she gives her famous graduation speech to the Harvard Law Class of 2004, she quotes Aristotle on the topic of passion. She disagrees with Aristotle to instead argue that “passion is a key ingredient to the study and practice of law and of life”.
Many would agree with Elle’s firm stance that passion is absolutely necessary towards one’s success in life. And there’s no doubt that passion is essential when it comes to doing anything wholeheartedly. But, where does passion really take us at the end of the day? How far can we go on passion alone? If we use Elle Woods as an example, then it should take us all the way to Harvard Law School, but let’s be realistic. In most cases, probably not.
