Conveying tone was a bit difficult when writing this article, but from my perspective and the overall temperature in NYC right now with anti-Asian hate, it seemed to me that this was racially and gender motivated. The subway I was on was plenty loud and to single me out in a crowded train when everyone else was talking left me with strong reason to believe it was due to my race and gender.
