Can’t argue with you there, Andrew — I absolutely agree that effort is a huge factor in whether or not a relationship (or even a friendship) works out. However, I do think that effort goes hand in hand with timing.

We don’t necessarily put in the same amount of effort into something if, at the moment, we are too busy putting effort into something else, such as school or our career or even just building a better version of ourselves.

Maybe I’m only speaking out of personal experience, but for me, that’s just how it played out — the timing wasn’t right, hence, the effort wasn’t made.

Completely fine to agree to disagree though :)
