Can You Ever Really Be Friends With Your Manager?

It’s absolutely possible, but just know that it won’t always happen

Throughout the majority of my career, I’ve always reported to a manager, but have never had anyone report to me. Then, a little over a year ago, I was promoted and transitioned from being an employee to a being manager as well.

Ever since then, I’ve learned how to adapt to being in a different type of work relationship and navigating the differences between someone who’s in a position of leadership versus someone who’s only a team member.

Among the many differences, perhaps the biggest adjustment I’ve struggled with has been figuring out where to draw the boundaries of whether to be friends with those who report to you
