Are People Still Making Money on Medium?

What it takes to be in the top percent of income earning authors

Over the past few years, I’ve become more and more disconnected from the Medium platform. It stemmed from a general decline in my quantity (and quality) of writing in combination with several back to back life events that shifted my focus away — the pandemic, getting married, the death of my dad, getting pregnant, the birth of my daughter.

These of course shouldn’t be used as excuses and if anything should be used as motivators. However, instead of leaning into these life experiences for writing material, I pulled back. I pulled back so much to the point where the last article I wrote was in 2023. And part of it was also due to the fact that I just wasn’t getting enough out of Medium in comparison to what I felt I was putting in.

It seemed like despite my two thousand plus followers, the traction I’ve seen in number of views, reads, claps, and dare I say income just wasn’t there anymore. So I began constantly asking myself, “What’s the point?”
